Return of Salmon proving to be strong addition for Angels
This is what Tim Salmon's career came down to — a non-roster invitation to spring training from the Los Angeles Angels so a player synonymous with the franchise could leave the game with his head held high. The Angels were convinced the 37-year-old, one of baseball's most consistent run producers during the 1990s, was done. After all, he missed most of 2004 with left knee and shoulder injuries and recovery from surgery on both cost him all of 2005.
The club had cut him out of their future plans. But by bringing Salmon to camp, they could let him walk away in a dignified manner while avoiding the PR mess of shunning a longtime fan favourite.
